August 15 1942: Assembled from units from the 82nd Infantry Division stationed in Camp Claiborne, the 82nd Airborne Division under Major General Matthew B. Ridgway’s orders and the 101st Airborne Division under Major General William C. Lee’s orders are created.
Some infantry, artillery, genie, transmissions and medical units are transformed into airborne units, most of them by gliders
