D-Day goal changes

May 28 1944: The D-Day objectives for both Airborne Divisions change, notably due to the arrival of the 91st Luftlande Division in the Cotentin. The 101st now has to secure Utah Beach’s four exits, destroy St-Martin-de-Varreville’s german battery, seize the La Barquette floodgate, detroy the Douve bridges, and hold a defense line on the VIIIth US Corps’ south side.

The 82nd Airborne now has to seize and secure Sainte-Mère-Eglise, capture and hold the bridges on the Merderet river, in La Fière and Chef-du-Pont, blow up the Douve bridges in Etienville and Beuzeville-la-Bastille, and hold a bridgehead west of the Merderet.
