Anti-gas detection armbands

© Airborne Museum

These brown or green paper british made armbands are intended to detect toxic gas. Worn on the uniform’s sleeve, they were distributed to british and american forces for D-Day. They are impregnated with a blistering gaz sensitive pain, so the armbands changes color and becomes pink or red when sensing toxic gas. The armbands are also worn by the paratroopers of the 101st Airborne.
