Goodbye Barbara Gavin Fauntleroy

C’est avec une grande tristesse que nous venons d’apprendre le décès de Barbara Gavin Fauntleroy, fille du général James M. Gavin. Barbara s’est éteinte le 6 décembre.

It is with great sadness that we have just learned of the death of Barbara Gavin Fauntleroy, daughter of General James M. Gavin. Barbara passed away on December 6.
Barbara was only a child when her father, the future commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, went to war. She published a book retracing her epistolary exchanges with her father: “The general and his dauther, the wartime letters of General James M. Gavin to his daugther Barbara”.

Adopted by the soldiers when she was a child, she later remained very close to the veterans who may or may not have been close to her father. Over the years, she has become the face of memory in the United States, but also and above all at Sainte-Mère-Eglise. She participated in the D-Day Landings anniversaries organized at Sainte-Mère-Eglise.

The Airborne Museum has been fortunate enough to receive her on many occasions, such as during the publication of the museum’s book: “Objectif Sainte-Mère-Eglise” or during the ceremony in honor of General Eisenhower.
